Ups and downs.

Up: My birthday. It was on a Friday, and everyone was nice. My representation teacher, Katarina, bought me a beer. And so did Christina. Then Jen and I and Tim and Mike went to a party at Tyler's house. Tyler just graduated from undergrad at WashU and was a TA for our orientation. It was really nice to see him again, and he had a bangin' apartment. The party was very chill, and it was so nice to be out of studio. Also, my mom sent me a ton of stuff. SO much food to studio. Everyone was happy.

Up/Down: Dale brought my birthday present to studio for me from him.
On the way to studio, Dale was on his bike, and a guy hit him with a weedwhacker. Dale went flying off of his bike and landed on his back and head. He had scrapes all over, a bruised hip, and a huge lump on his head. I think he was slightly concussed when he arrived because he was sort of loopy and way too cheerful to be in as much pain as he was.

Down: I had a presentation and a model due on Wednesday. (Warning TMI coming up) I was on my period, and as a result I was feeling really weak and sick. I almost fainted in studio when I stood up. My vision turned all to white and I had to lean on Jen's desk until I could see again. I continued feeling bad for the rest of the week.

Down: Sung Ho told us that we had to be in studio Saturday night (tonight) for a presentation and desk crits. Not so bad. Katarina told us we had to be in studio all day Sunday because we had to make a stupid paper model for Monday so we could draw it in perspective. For whatever reason, she didn't tell us earlier in the week so that we could be adequately prepared for Monday and have the right amount of work done. They also told me my drawing wasn't complicated enough, so I changed it. Because they didn't understand what I was doing the first time, it was then too complicated. Basically, the weekend evaporated and my project was fucked up and it wasn't my fault. I also have a 2 hour presentation that I have to have ready for Thurdsay, and I had wanted to just work on that and spend the weekend with Dale. I was on the verge of tears for about 4 hours at studio. Christina did cry. Jen wanted to cry. I think Kyla and Katie said they wanted to cry too.

Down: I did cry, but I waited until I got home (at midnight). I had told Dale that if me being at studio too much was a problem, that he had to tell me. Well, he did. He didn't fault me, because I can't really do a whole lot about it. I just felt so guilty, and I had been missing him so much that I just burst into tears. It's so hard sometimes. I just want to be with him, and he's so close but I still can't see him. It's an awful tease. Most of the time I come home and he's already asleep. And he doesn't hang out with a lot of law school people because most of them are married or have other shit going on, so he doesn't have other people to distract him when I'm not around. I just don't want him to be lonely.

Up: Today Dale's parents came in to take us couch shopping. So we now have a really nice futon that PEOPLE CAN COME SLEEP ON WHEN VISITING ME HERE IN ST. LOUIS. We had Lebanese food for lunch and it was great. We also went grocery shopping, and Dale's parents had brought a ton of food from their house, including great baked goods. I went to studio and worked for a bit before Sung Ho came in. He showed us a presentation of all the models he did while in school at RISD, the AA, and MIT. His degree project at RISD was incredible. He designed a bridge that would go across the demarcation line between North and South Korea. He talked about how the experience of the struggle was so distant to him yet so close because of his grandparents' stories, yet he was now living in America. Even though he didn't say anything to reveal it, it was so clear through his work that it was extremely emotional. It was really incredible, and I hope I can make something like that someday. We had our pinup, and he was really excited about our progress, and he told us that he was really proud of us. I don't know how it works, but it seems that no matter what Sung Ho tells me, it makes me feel better about doing so much work. And if he's proud, it's insane how good I (and everyone else) feel afterwards. Now I'm at home with Dale, on our new couch, and it's great. I'm NOT going into studio for Katarina's goddamned class. And Dale and I are now going to watch Battlestar Galactica. And I'm going to have ice cream.
